The Ultimate Golf Getaways
By Damien Martin
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and there are plenty of work to be done outside. So what better time to ditch those projects, gather your friends and go play some golf? We at Largay Travel have the perfect foursome of getaways to help you fix that slice once and for all.
Experience the Home of Golf, Scotland
Even if your game isn’t quite Claret Jug-worthy, you can still live out your dreams of playing a round on the Old Course at St. Andrews with our Virtuoso-preferred partner Adventures in Golf. The 6-night package also includes three other rounds at world-ranked courses such as Kingsbarns, Royal Dornoch, Carnoustie and Turnberry Ailsa.
Deluxe accommodations with daily breakfast and a rental car are included. You can add a driver to take you around if you need to focus your mental energy or your other driving. Space for 2017 is quickly filling up, but it’s not too early to plan for next year.
100 Holes of Golf, Hawaii
This 6-night package from Virtuoso-preferred partner Luxe Travel Hawai‘i has you teeing off on three islands with stays at the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, the Grand Wailea -- a Waldorf Astoria resort -- on Maui and at the Four Seasons Resort Lana‘i at Manele Bay.
After relaxing on the day of arrival, your first round is at Ko Olina Golf Course, home to the LPGA Lotte Championship and designed by Ted Robinson. You’ll undoubtedly work up an appetite, which is good because you’re dining on Euro-Asian fusion at Roy’s Ko Olina. Next up is Kapolei Golf Course, home to the Inaugural Pacific Links Hawai‘i Championship hosted by Greg Norman. Dinner is compliments of the Chefs of Ihilani.
On Day 4, you jet off to Maui for 18 holes at Wailea’s Emerald Course, featuring vista of the Pacific Ocean and Mt. Haleakala. A Polynesian Pa‘ina oceanside dinner with entertainment follows. Round 4 is at the Plantation Course at Kapalua, which ranks among the world’s greatest courses and is the host of the PGA TOUR Hyundai Tournament of Champions each January. After your round, you’ll take an exclusive ferry to Lana‘i for dinner at Manele Bay.
Your final full round is at The Challenge at Manele, designed by Jack Nicklaus. For those of you keeping score, that’s 90 holes, and you were promised 100. Not to worry, you’ll be whisked off to Greg Norman-designed The Experience at Koele, a dramatic contrast to The Challenge, for your final 10 holes before a farewell sunset dinner on the 18th fairway of The Challenge.
The Golfers Dream, New Zealand
I know, I know, that yard work really needs to get done, and there’s no way you can get out until winter. No worries, when it’s winter here, it’s summer in New Zealand! And you can’t go all the way to New Zealand for just one week. Virtuoso-preferred partner Seasonz Travel has you covered with this 14-day package.
You’ll stay at Kauri Cliffs, Huka Lodge, The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, Matakauri Lodge and finish up at the Sofitel Auckland with rounds of golf at Kauri Cliffs, Kinloch, Wairakei, The Hills, Jack’s Point and Titirangi.
Most meals are included, as is ground transportation and 24-hour concierge service.
Golf Safari, Kenya
If you’re thinking your trip needs less “Golden Bear” and more actual lions, this itinerary from Virtuoso-preferred partner Abercrombie & Kent is for you. In addition to playing Muthaiga Golf Club, home of the Kenya Open, and Mugie Ranch, you’ll stay at Hemingways Nairobi, Mutumaiyu House, Loldia House, Sanctuary Ololona and Fairmont The Norfolk.
Full board is provided outside of Nairobi, and internal flights are included. You’ll also spend time on Lake Naivasha and have the opportunity for game viewing complete with the ultimate 19th hole, sundowners on the Maasai Mara.
